ChatGPT, as an AI language model, excels at word games but we have played math games and some board games too. However, to fully enjoy these games, it’s essential to provide clear prompts, as ChatGPT might not always know the game rules without guidance. In this article, we’ve compiled a list of word games you can play with ChatGPT with prompts to make the most of your experience.

Note: These games can be played on both free and paid versions of ChatGPT. However, if you have a ChatGPT Plus subscription, you will experience better and more challenging gameplay.

1. Word Association Game

This is a simple word game where ChatGPT starts with a word, and you need to reply with a related word. For example, if ChatGPT says “Ocean,” you could reply with “Salt.” If either of you cannot find a related word or repeats a word, that player loses. Here’s the prompt to play this Word Association game with ChatGPT smoothly.

Let's play a Word Association game! Start with a word, and we'll take turns saying related words. If someone can't find a related word, says a word that isn't related, or repeats a word that was already mentioned, they lose. Keep track of all the words said during the game, and ensure no repeats. If I repeat a word, let me know that I've lost. Let's begin with the first word!

2. 20 Questions

In 20 Questions, you think of a word and ChatGPT has to guess it by asking up to 20 yes-or-no questions. The questions can be something like, “Is it the name of a planet in the solar system?” or “Is it a synonym for water?”, or “is it a verb”.

Let's play the 20 Questions game! I'll think of an object, person, or place, and you have to guess what it is by asking up to 20 yes-or-no questions. I'll answer each of your questions with a "yes," "no," or "I don't know." Try to narrow down the possibilities with each question. If you guess correctly before reaching 20 questions, you win! If not, I'll reveal the answer at the end. Be creative with your questions to make the game more fun and challenging.

If you want to take the guessing seat, you can use this prompt so that ChatGPT will think of a word, and you will need to guess it by asking up to 20 yes-or-no questions.

Let's play a guessing game! You think of any word, and I'll try to figure it out by asking up to 20 yes-or-no questions. You only need to answer with "yes," "no," or "I don't know." I'll use each answer to narrow down the possibilities and guess the word. If I guess the word correctly within 20 questions, I win! If not, you win, and you'll reveal the word at the end. Feel free to choose any word you like to make the game more fun and challenging. Let me know when you're ready, and I'll start with my first question!

3. Hangman

Hangman is a classic word game where you guess letters to figure out a word ChatGPT has in mind. Let's play Hangman! Think of a word, and I'll try to guess it one letter at a time. For each incorrect guess, you draw part of a stick figure. Here’s the prompt to play Word Ladder with ChatGPT:
