Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 brings back Sprites, the cutesies that were first introduced in Chapter 6. These Sprites are collectibles that give you perks during a match, and with new Sprites added, things are getting exciting on the battlefield. This guide breaks down every Sprite available, what they do, and which ones are actually worth going after.
How to Get and Use Sprites in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3
At the start, you'll have access to three Sprites: Water, Earth, and Fire, each with its own unique effects. As you continue playing, you'll be able to discover and unlock additional Sprites to expand your options.
Sprites spawn primarily inside chests, though they also appear at random floor loot across the map and can drop from players you eliminate if they had one equipped. When you spot a Sprite, walk up to it and interact to pick it up. If you do not already have a Sprite on your back, it equips automatically. To swap between Sprites, highlight the one you want in your inventory and use it.
However, Sprites can't simply be picked up and used immediately like the Sprite mechanic in Chapter 6. When you find one on the map, you'll need to bring it to an Extraction Point to add it to your collection. Once collected, that Sprite will become available for use in future matches.
How to Extract Sprites in Fortnite
Extracting is how you permanently bank a Sprite. If you die before extracting, you lose it. The only exceptions are a Victory Royale, which auto-extracts every Sprite on your person, and Portable Extractors.
To extract a Sprite:
- Locate an Extraction Site on the map. They show up as white icons and fire a visible beam of light into the sky that you can spot from far away.
- Walk up to the terminal and interact with it to start the extraction.
- Move into cover immediately. Starting the extraction alerts nearby players and changes the map icon, so assume someone is pushing you.
- When the timer ends and the Extraction Crate drops, you only have a few seconds to deposit your Sprites before it leaves. Do not wait.
- Once deposited, your Sprites are saved to your collection.
Portable Extractors
Mastering Sprites and completing certain Daily Quests rewards you with Extraction Gizmos. There are three types in the game, but the one available for now is the Portable Extractor. These let you extract a Sprite from anywhere on the map without needing an Extraction Site, which is ideal for high-rarity Sprites you cannot afford to lose.

How to Summon a Sprite with Sprite Dust?
Sprite Dust is the currency you spend to re-summon Sprites from your collection after dying. You earn it by extracting Sprites at Extraction Sites or with a Portable Extractor, even if you already own that Sprite type. You also earn Sprite Dust as Sprite Mastery rewards at tiers 3 and 5.
The amount of Sprite Dust needed to re-summon a Sprite depends on its rarity:

How to Level Up Your Sprites in Fortnite
Each Sprite has five levels. You earn XP for your equipped Sprite through eliminations, chest and ammo box opens, and other in-match actions. Extracting a Sprite at level 5 counts as mastering it and earns you rewards.
Once mastered, a crown appears on the Sprite's icon. Even if you bring it back in at level 1 after dying, it still keeps the level 5 perks.
While leveling up Sprites may sound simple, the tasks involved require a significant amount of time and grinding. Don't expect to fully upgrade your Sprites in a single match. Instead, continue playing regularly, and your Sprites will gradually become stronger over time.
