Fortnite Pumpkin Chest locations are the thing to learn this month, because these glowing chests are one of the easiest ways to pick up Sprites during Fortnitemares 2026. They pop up across the island in some fixed spots, but they don't always show up, which can waste a lot of your time. A few areas are much better than others, and one spot in particular has become my go-to. Here's where to look and what's worth your time.
What Are Pumpkin Chests in Fortnite?
Pumpkin Chests are a new type of container added for Fortnitemares 2026 in Fortnite Override (Chapter 7 Season 4). They look like big pumpkins that glow purple, so they're easier to spot than regular chests, especially at a distance. They're pretty huge, too.
You don't open them like normal chests. You walk up and smash them with your pickaxe. Each one drops a random Sprite. For newer players, Sprites are the small companion creatures you collect this season, and you need to extract them (take them out of the match at an extraction site) to keep them in your collection.

Pumpkin Chests spawn at preset spots, but they don't have a 100% spawn rate. In some matches, you'll find three at one POI. In others, you'll find none. I've had full runs where every spot was empty, so don't panic if you strike out once. Here are all the 17 known spawn spots so far:

What Do Pumpkin Chests Drop in Fortnite
Every Pumpkin Chest drops one Sprite. It can be pretty much any Sprite from this season, and you can also get variants like Gold Sprites. In my runs, I've pulled a Spooky Dash, a Vampire Sprite, Deer Sprite, Dumpster Dive Sprite, and more. So, basically, the Pumpkin Chests seem to give you better odds at the Halloween-themed Sprites than other regular chests.
These three are the main reason I bother with Pumpkin Chests over regular chests. Plenty of other things in the game drop random Sprites, but very few give you a better shot at these specific ones.
Pumpkin Chest Quest and Rewards
Smashing your first Pumpkin Chest also completes a quest, so it's worth doing at least once even if you don't care about Sprites.

That quest completion counts toward the Fortnitemares reward track, which includes the free Jack-a-Nape Skin. Easy XP for very little effort. Pumpkin Chests stay in the game until Fortnitemares 2026 ends, so it will be available for around four weeks until October 31st, 2026.
If you want to farm these chests, check the north side and Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria first, since they have the most spawns. Smash at least one Pumpkin Chest for the free 15,000 XP and Jack-a-Nape progress. If a match has no chests, just reset and try again. It's mostly luck, so a few extra runs usually pay off.
