Gears of War: E-Day characters and NPCs cover a lot more ground than the faces on the box art. Some are old friends from the series, some are brand new, and a few are the reason Kalona turns into a nightmare on Emergence Day. Knowing who's who makes the story hit harder, and it also tells you who you can actually play in each mode. Here's the full lineup of all the 16 characters and NPCs in Gears of War: E-Day with their voice actors.
How Characters Work in Gears of War: E-Day
Only four characters are playable in the Campaign, and together they make up Bravo Squad. You can pick any of them from the very start, and you choose before each mission. Everyone else you meet in the story is an NPC (a non-playable character controlled by the game). But these NPCs aren't locked away forever. They can be unlocked as playable characters in Horde Siege and Versus, so your favorite side character still gets a chance to shine.
The campaign supports up to 4-player online co-op, which lines up perfectly with Bravo Squad's four members. On console, you also get 2-player split-screen.

Gears of War: E-Day 4 Playable Characters - Bravo Squad
E-Day is set 14 years before the original Gears of War (check the play order), so this is a younger crew. The Pendulum Wars (the long human war between the COG and the UIR) have just ended, and everyone is carrying some baggage from it.
| Character | Rank and Background | New or Returning |
|---|---|---|
| Marcus Fenix | Veteran Gear from an elite military family | Returning |
| Dominic "Dom" Santiago | - Private - COG STG commando | Returning |
| Mags Carter | - Specialist - Ex-demolitions squad leader | New |
| Lucas Reyes | - Cadet First Class - Communications Officer | New |
1. Marcus Fenix
Voice Actor: John DiMaggio
Marcus turned down an easy life in his rich military family to enlist with his best friend, Carlos Santiago, who is also Dom's older brother. Carlos died during the Pendulum Wars, and Marcus still blames himself. In the original trilogy, Marcus is already a hardened, quiet guy, and E-Day finally shows how much of that comes from guilt rather than just being tough.

2. Dominic "Dom" Santiago
Voice Actor: Carlos Ferro
Dom is the glue of the group. He's trying to support his family, his squad, and a grieving Marcus all at once. Carlos's death also puts some distance between the two friends, which is a big change from the rock-solid partnership longtime fans remember.

3. Mags Carter
Voice Actor: Elizabeth Ludlow
Mags spent 15 years leading demolition missions with the 8th Kalona Siege Grenadiers. An explosive malfunction killed her whole squad, and she was discharged right after, despite her record. When E-Day starts, she's working as a civilian at the Timgad Prime Imulsion Refinery in her hometown of Kalona.
She's the most experienced fighter in Bravo Squad outside of Marcus and Dom, and her story might be the most tragic of the four.

4. Lucas Reyes
Voice Actor: Jake Ryan Lozano
Lucas grew up listening to radio stories about heroic Gears and enlisted with his best friends the moment he could. His high test scores got him pulled out of the infantry and sent to train as a Communications Officer, while his friends went to the front without him. E-Day is his first real taste of combat.

1. Tai Kaliso
Tai is the big returning name here. His home village on the South Island of Irohma was wiped out by the UIR during the war, and Marcus is the one who recruited him. He looks intimidating but is actually quiet and thoughtful. Fans know Tai from Gears of War 2, so seeing him years earlier is a treat. He also has a new voice actor for E-Day, Maateiwarangi Heta-Morris.
2. Manu and Mako Kemara
These twins are from the South Island of Weilehi. Manu is the careful older brother and a skilled scout sniper, while Mako is the hot-headed younger one who loves heavy weapons. Manu only joined the army to keep Mako out of trouble.
3. Gill Gettner and Daan Riggs
Gettner is a sharp-tongued, highly skilled King Raven pilot (the COG's main transport helicopter), and Riggs mans the door gun on the same bird. Riggs jokes around a lot, but he's surprisingly strict about safety rules on his Raven.
4. Hank "Russ" Rustin
Russ worked at the COG Defense Research Agency with Dr. Adam Fenix, who is Marcus's father, and the two of them redesigned the Gnasher Shotgun. If you've played any Gears game, you know how big a deal the Gnasher is. Now he runs the armory for the Kalona Heavy Infantry.
5. The Rest of the COG Crew
- Zee is the tough base commander who got promoted somewhat against his will.
- Akila Grey is a reliable captain who has seen the ugly side of COG leadership firsthand.
- Elias Trench is the opposite type, a win-at-all-costs colonel who thinks closing down old military bases is beneath him.
- Quentin Michaelson is a charming Navy captain whose crew would follow him anywhere.
- Shin Morida is a medic who saved plenty of lives but just wants a quiet retirement.
- Bryce Valen leads Charlie Squad and is always first into the fight.
Start the campaign as Marcus or Dom if you know the series, since their Carlos storyline is the emotional core. Newer players might enjoy Lucas more, because he's discovering everything for the first time just like you.
