Reading text-heavy web pages on a mobile browser can be painful. Samsung aims to change that with Galaxy AI in the Galaxy S24 series phones. Along with other bells and whistles, Galaxy AI brings significant feature called Browsing Assist AI for the Samsung Internet browser. The Browser Assist AI can summarize and translate articles or web pages to help you read and comprehend the content quickly. The best part is that you don’t even have to leave the browser tab.

Of course, there will be some hits and misses with the results initially since the feature is still in its teething stage. Still can save you a lot of minutes while browsing. Here’s how to set up and use Browsing Assist AI on your Galaxy S24 series phone.

What Is Browsing Assist on the Samsung Galaxy S24

Browsing Assist is a new feature in the Samsung Internet app that packs two AI capabilities—Summarize and Translate.

The Summarize feature uses advanced intelligence to create simple summaries of the web page text, reducing a lengthy article to a few key points. This helps you grasp the relevant information quickly and not spend time reading the entire web page.

The Translate feature utilizes Neural Machine Translation models to translate the content on websites and social media platforms. These Neural Machine Translation models are trained with massive amounts of data to understand the context of sentences. The aim is to help you read and understand the context-aware translations of the foreign languages better.

To use Browsing Assist, you’ll need the following:

  • Galaxy phone that supports Galaxy AI
  • Latest version of the Samsung Internet app with Samsung account
  • An active internet connection

At the time of writing, Galaxy AI features launched with the Galaxy S24 series. We presume that some, if not all, Galaxy AI features will be available to other Galaxy phones too later this year.

How to Use Summarize in Browser Assist

Whether you’re reading a novella or a report on the web, too much of text can get tedious to read. Instead, you can use the Summarize feature in the Samsung Internet browser to read the gist of the wall of text. Here’s how to use Summarize in Browser Assist.

1. Open the Samsung Internet app on your Galaxy S24 series phone.

Note: Summarize feature might not work on all websites and the results might vary each time.

How to Use Translate in Browsing Assist

While Google Translate works fine, you still need to install and activate it on your Android phone. However, the Translate feature in Browsing Assist is default. All you need to do is tap on the Translate button while browsing. Here’s how:

1. Go to any webpage that you want to translate.

2. Tap the Browsing Assist icon at the bottom and select Translate.

3. You’ll see a translate popup at the top of the webpage. Select your preferred language and tap the Translate button.

In just a few seconds, the webpage will be translated into your preferred language. Plus, any other pages you visit on the site from there on will be translated automatically.

The Translation and On-device mode require language packs to function. You can download language packs on your Samsung phone by heading to Settings app, tap on Samsung Internet Settings and choose Browsing Assist. Then, tap on Translate, choose Language Packs for Translation. Alternatively, choose Settings, select General Management, and tap Language Packs.

It currently supports translation between 13 languages: Chinese Simplified, English (India, United Kingdom, United States), French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish (Mexico, Spain, United States), Thai, and Vietnamese. More languages will be added in future updates.

We translated a few articles using both Google Translate and Samsung Internet’s Browsing Assist Translate. The translations are generally consistent across platforms. However, Samsung’s Galaxy AI’s offering feels more natural in some instances.

Is Browsing Assist Coming to Older Samsung Galaxy Phones

Browsing Assist is one of the Galaxy AI features introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. We have some good news if you’re wondering whether these features will be available on your old Galaxy phone.

Samsung has confirmed to Android Authority that many Galaxy AI features will be arriving on previous models, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series within the first half of the year.

Unfortunately, the company hasn’t clarified which features will make their way to older phones. Some features are processed in the cloud, similar to Pixel’s Magic Eraser, which was later released to more devices. At the same time, on-device AI tasks require the capabilities of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Exynos 2400, limiting their availability on older models.
