Samsung Galaxy Phone: Use These Developer Options to Increase Speed, Performance

Developer Options is a hidden set of advanced settings that give you access to several advanced options and settings. Some of these settings can boost your Galaxy phone’s performance. Some examples include settings that can help reduce lag, speed up animations, and even make your phone feel more responsive. By tweaking a few options, you can enhance your Samsung Galaxy phone’s speed and overall experience without installing any third-party apps or tools. We found some developer options in Galaxy phones that will speed up your device’s performance.

Firstly, you need to unlock the Developer options on your Samsung phone. To Unlock the Developer options:

  1. Head to Settings > About phone > Software information.
  2. Tap Build number seven times.
  3. You’ll see a confirmation message.
  4. Open the Settings app again and Developer Options will appear there.

Note: Enabling Developer Options is a powerful way to optimize your Samsung device, but it comes with a con. Many banking and financial apps may not work properly when Developer Options are enabled. This is because these apps use the setting as a security measure to prevent potential misuse. If you face issues, you can disable Developer Options temporarily by toggling it off in Settings or resetting your Developer Options settings.

1. Adjust Animation Speeds for Faster Performance

One of the quickest ways to improve your Samsung Galaxy phone’s speed is by adjusting the animation settings in Developer Options. Here’s how:

Open Settings > Developer Options and scroll down to the Drawing section. Look for the following three animation settings:

  • Window animation scale: Controls the speed of the app and window pop-ups.
  • Transition animation scale: Adjusts the speed when transitioning between home screens and apps.
  • Animator duration scale: Changes the speed of UI animations, such as opening and closing apps.

By default, these are set to 1x. To make things faster, reduce the scale to 0.5x. For an even snappier experience, you can turn off the animations completely. Try swiping and navigating around your phone after this adjustment and notice how much smoother and quicker your Galaxy phone feels.

2. Use the Hidden Task Manager to Monitor App Usage

Your Samsung Galaxy phone has a hidden task manager that shows the real-time resource usage of each app. To access it:

  1. Open Developer Options and find Running Services.
  2. Tap on it to view the resource consumption of each app on your device.
  3. If you find an app using excessive resources, select the app, and tap on Stop to freeze the app.

This simple trick can help you keep your device running smoothly.

Note: Be cautious not to stop any essential system apps, as doing so could affect your device’s functionality.

3. Enhance Graphics Performance for Better Gaming

Are you a gamer? Enabling hardware-accelerated rendering through 4x MSAA (Multisample Anti-Aliasing) can significantly boost your Samsung Galaxy phone’s graphics performance. This setting forces your device to render smoother edges in games by switching to OpenGL ES 2.0.

Enabling 4x MSAA improves visual quality by up to 20-30% in supported games. It results in sharper graphics and a more immersive experience. However, this performance boost comes at a cost – higher battery consumption and potential heating. So use it judiciously for intensive gaming sessions.

  1. Scroll through Developer Options to find the 4x MSAA (Multisample Anti-Aliasing) option under Hardware accelerated rendering section.
  2. Toggle it on to enable OpenGL ES 2.0 for improved graphics.

Note: Keep in mind that while this setting enhances performance, it can lead to higher battery consumption and increased heat. Use it wisely, especially during long gaming sessions.

4. Limit Background Processes to Boost Performance

The Background Process Limit feature in Developer Options allows you to manage how many processes can run in the background simultaneously. By reducing the number of concurrent background processes, you can free up memory and improve overall performance, especially on phones with limited resources. To adjust this setting:

  1. Go to Developer Options.
  2. Scroll to Background Process Limit under the Apps section.
  3. Choose from options like “No background processes” or limit to 1-4 processes.

We recommend keeping it to 4 processes max so that it doesn’t keep on reopening all the apps. While this improves speed, it may affect multitasking and app behavior. Adjust the number based on your usage.

Beyond Developer Options, you can further enhance your Samsung Galaxy phone’s speed and responsiveness by clearing up some space. Deleting unnecessary files, uninstalling unused apps, and transferring large media files to cloud storage or an external drive can free up resources. Regularly restarting your device and keeping apps updated also ensure smoother operation. For an added boost, consider using Samsung’s built-in Device Care feature to optimize your device’s performance with just a few taps.

However, remember to use these settings responsibly, as some can affect battery life and app functionality. Do not mess around with core system apps and settings unless you know what you are doing.
