Budling is one of the recent companions added to Fisch and comes with a set of passive bonuses that benefit both fishing and gardening in ways no other companion currently offers. Getting him requires completing a short escort quest, but there is a catch that trips up a lot of players. Here is exactly how to unlock the Budling companion in Fisch and what he does once you have him.
How to Get Budling Companion in Fisch?
Before you can begin the Budling escort, you need to have completed the entire Living Garden bestiary. This is a hard requirement, and you will not be able to start the escort until it is done. Make sure your Living Garden bestiary is fully complete before heading over.
- Step 1: Head to the Living Garden and look for Budling wandering near the Moosewood Mirror. Interact with him to begin the escort.
- Step 2: Your goal is to guide Budling safely to the garden on the right side. The most important rule is simple: Budling cannot touch the water at any point. If he falls in he resets all the way back to the starting area and you have to begin again from scratch.
- Step 3: Lead Budling across the bridge then move through the small stem and cross the log. After that position him toward the branch, jump onto it, and keep following the route downward. Budling will follow you as long as you guide him properly so take your time around the tricky sections near the water.
- Step 4: Once Budling safely reaches the garden the companion is yours.
The key to completing this without resetting is patience. Do not rush through the sections near the water and always check his position before jumping or moving into a risky area.

What Does Budling Do
Budling has four confirmed passive bonuses that make him genuinely worth unlocking:
- Perfect catches strengthen Budling which progressively reduces the chance of pulling unwanted items like trash, crates, and barrels during fishing sessions.
- Daytime fish avoid the night penalty while Budling is active meaning fish that normally prefer daytime conditions do not suffer the standard nighttime luck reduction when he is equipped.
- Seed drop rate increase inside the Living Garden. Budling increases the chance of obtaining seeds including the Living Seed when opening flowers, primarily at nighttime.
- Nectar Bait drop rate increase from opening flowers in the Living Garden giving you a better chance at securing one of the more useful bait items in the game.
