Instagram Introduces New Blend Feature: How to Invite Friends

Instagram reels can be fun, addictive, and entertaining, although they can result in endless doomscrolling. But what if you wanted to waste your time with your friends together? Instagram has introduced a new Blend feature, a custom reel feed based on what you share with your friends. Here’s how Instagram Blend works. Instagram Blend Feed: How It Works

Instagram has unveiled its Blend feature that lets you share reels with your friends in a fun new way. It’s a new feed of custom reels based on the things that you usually share with your friends. So if your friends are like me and they usually complain that they can’t see the same funny reels as you do, this is a great feature to use.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri says that it’s a new way to initiate a conversation with your friends or share your interests with them. So maybe you can share those cringeworthy reels with your friends to share your trauma.

Do note that since the feature is currently rolling out, it’s only available for select chats and that too on the latest version of the app.

Here’s how you can set up the Instagram Blends feature:

1. Open the chat or group chat where you wish to start a blend
2. Now tap on the Blend icon next to the call option. This is denoted by a smiley icon with a plus sign next to it.
3. If the feature is available, it will open up a new screen. Otherwise, you will get a message saying: “This feature isn’t available to all chats yet.”
4. Once you find a chat where it’s available, press the Invite button to invite your friend.
5. Now wait for your friend to accept the invitation. In case your friend is using an older version, they will need to update to the latest one.
6. Once your friends tap the join button, you will see a screen explaining the Blend feature. Tap on Next and then Done to access blends.

Now, a new reels section will open up where you and your friends will see the same reels based on the content you share in the chat. You can react and even send messages to the chat from the bottom of the screen. To access this section again, you just need to open that respective chat and tap on Go to Blend. You can also click on the smiley icon next to the call button.

You can also see which person that specific reel was suggested for in the Blend. How does Instagram determine this? Well, it uses Instagram’s algorithm to suggest reels based on the reels you interact with and like.

Furthermore, even the posts and trees that you share in that chat are also taken into account. So maybe you should think twice before you turn on the Blend feature with your colleague or coworkers. Since they might end up seeing the same reels that you like.

The content shown in Blends will refresh every day, so you and your friends don’t get bored, and each chat can have a unique blend with various participants. While the company has been testing the feature since March, this is the first time it’s rolling out widely.
