The Marvel gaming universe has created different ways of bringing our favorite heroes and villains to life. While Marvel Rivals and Marvel’s Avengers share the same beloved characters, they have gone in different directions with skins and cosmetic looks. Let’s see these differences without getting too technical, understanding that both games made their own choices on how they wanted the characters to appear. Here is a fair comparison of hero skins in Marvel Rivals and Marvel’s Avengers.

Marvel Rivals vs Marvel's Avengers Skin Comparison: Differences in Cosmetics

Marvel Rivals vs Marvel’s Avengers Costumes (Skins)

If you are playing both games, you will realize that the character designs are so different from each other. Marvel Rivals goes for a colorful, comic book-inspired style with bold designs that pop, while Marvel’s Avengers takes a more realistic approach. Neither style is better than the other – they just simply fit different creative visions. Marvel Rivals focuses on capturing the exciting, dynamic feel of comics. Marvel’s Avengers imagines how these heroes would look in a more real-world setting.

Captain America

Marvel Rivals’ Captain America design sticks to a classic, comic-inspired look with bold colors. It represents his patriotic spirit and his World War II roots. On the other hand, Marvel’s Avengers Captain America’s classic suit opts for a more tactical look. They also give Captain America a Stark Tech suit, with advanced armor and futuristic details like glowing helmet eyes. Some players felt it moved too far from the simplicity that makes his classic design iconic.

Thor

Thor’s costume designs in Marvel Rivals really capture his divine heritage. It showcases his godly stature with grand proportions that highlight his Asgardian roots. From his armor to the physics of his cape, every detail represents his role as a god among heroes. In contrast, Marvel’s Avengers gave Thor a more down-to-earth look. This design made him seem more human, which many players felt took away from his godly presence which makes him so special.

Iron Man

Both games present Iron Man’s armor skin in their own way. Marvel Rivals goes for sleek, comic-inspired cosmetic designs, while again, Avengers takes a more realistic, mechanical approach. Each style matches its game’s vision. But players have generally preferred Rivals’ version for capturing the high-tech feel of the comics and films (and we do feel the same way!)

Black Widow

Marvel Rivals gives Black Widow a distinct silhouette with her iconic red hair and streamlined tactical suit. The Marvel’s Avengers version aims for realism but, according to player feedback, ends up looking more generic as a result. However, we think that both styles perfectly fit the look of their games. The Marvel’s Avengers skin doesn’t look bad at all.

Spider-Man

Marvel Rivals makes Spider-Man a key Duelist at launch, offering four skins and dynamic animations that showcase his moves and comic-book energy. However, Marvel’s Avengers introduced Spider-Man as a PlayStation exclusive, featuring detailed fabric and mechanical web shooters. For Spider-Man, we think both versions have their merits and charms.

Hulk

Marvel Rivals Hulk skins are better than Marvel's Avengers

Marvel Rivals shows Hulk as a strong Vanguard fighter. Its design highlights his huge size and gamma-powered anger, making him feel like the unstoppable force from the comics. Marvel’s Avengers Hulk skin has bulkier muscles and skins like The Monster Inside, nodding to his original look. Both skins are impressive, though the Rivals’ skin looks way better.

Hawkeye

Hawkeye’s skin design shows a big difference between the two games. Marvel Rivals gives him a bold, superhero look that highlights his archer identity, even the costume gives him a cool striking violet color. While the Marvel’s Avengers version has been described by players as looking like a generic military character with a bow. As one player noted, there’s a “mad difference” between the two interpretations.

Black Panther

Marvel Rivals’ Black Panther has a sleek, powerful look that highlights his royal Wakandan heritage. However, we have to agree with players’ comments that the Marvel’s Avengers skin makes him seem more like a cosplayer than a Super Soldier. It would have been great if Marvel’s Avengers added cooler skins to better reflect his regal and powerful presence.

Winter Soldier

The Winter Soldier in Marvel Rivals sticks to his comic book look while keeping his intimidating presence. The color mix of brown and green looks great, even though it’s simple, it doesn’t look dull. Marvel’s Avengers’ version grounded Bucky’s look, giving him a military realism. Each interpretation aligns with their respective game’s vision though.

These art style differences go beyond just how the characters look. Marvel Rivals’ style features cool animations and flashy abilities that stay true to the comic books. As the game heads into Season 1 with new content coming on January 6th, players are excited to see how the game will continue to bring Marvel’s characters to life with its unique style.
