Meta Ray-Ban AI Smart Glasses Are Finally Launching in India

Meta has now announced that its Ray-Ban smart glasses will soon be available in India. These AI-powered glasses allow users to capture photos and videos, listen to music and podcasts, take calls, and even ask questions hands-free, among other features. They will also launch in Mexico and the UAE.

If you remember, this isn’t a new product by any means. In fact, Meta launched them originally in September 2023, about one and a half years back. But it’s not that the glasses have gone out of fashion. Instead, Meta is rolling out new features via software updates, such as a live translation feature, to all markets that support English, French, Italian, and Spanish.

Additionally, Ray-Ban Meta glasses will be able to send and receive direct messages, photos, audio calls, and video calls from Instagram. They’ll also support sending messages and making calls via WhatsApp and Messenger, as well as the native messaging app on your iPhone or Android phone.

Users can further ask Meta AI to play any music of their choice hands-free, as long as their default language is set to English. It now supports popular streaming apps such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Shazam—even in markets outside the US and Canada.

In short, these Meta Ray-Ban AI glasses can do five things:

  • Chat with Meta AI on the go (ask about stuff you see, set reminders, and more)
  • Capture photos or videos
  • Listen to music
  • Send voice messages and make calls hands-free
  • Translate conversations in real time

For all of this, the glasses have a 12-megapixel HD camera onboard with a five-mic system to record audio and hear your commands properly, a capture button, open-ear speakers, a swipe touchpad to play/pause music and control volume, and a power switch.

Besides launching just the Meta Ray-Ban glasses, the company has also unveiled a new stylish frame with a cat-eye design. The company calls it the “Skyler Shiny” frame. These frames will be available in three options: Skyler Shiny Black with G15 Green lenses, Skyler Shiny Chalky Gray with Transitions Sapphire lenses, and Skyler Shiny Black with Clear lenses.

Expected Price in India

As of now, Meta hasn’t officially announced the launch date or pricing for the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses in India. However, based on their U.S. pricing, here’s an estimate of what we can expect:

  • Standard lenses: $299 (~₹24,999)
  • Polarized lenses: $329 (~₹27,400)
  • Transition lenses: $379 (~₹31,500)

Some Indian retailers are listing these glasses at around ₹34,999, likely due to import duties and early access markups. We expect the official price to be lower than this, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Besides launching the Ray-Ban glasses, which are already available in other markets, Meta is working on new Hypernova smart glasses. Expected to feature a screen, these glasses could let you use apps on them and are expected to be priced over $1000.
