There are a few Roblox games that are based on real stories of missing people. Many of those scary moments you see in the game were someone's reality. Some of the most unsettling Roblox games out there aren't scary because of jump scares or horror mechanics. They're scary because they're based on real missing people and real crimes. Here are 3 Roblox games based on missing people that happened in real life and nobody knows about.
1. 99 Nights in the Forest
The game greets you with a disclaimer right at the start: "This game is based on a true story. Some details have been changed." Most people assume the creepy Deer is the true part. Well, it's not.

The real inspiration is the survival story of four children stranded in the Amazon rainforest after a plane crash in May 2023. The plane carried three adults and four kids, aged 13, 9, 4, and just 11 months old. The crash killed the other adults on board, and their mother passed away four days later. These kids were completely alone in one of the most dangerous places on Earth.
They survived for nearly 40 days by eating fruit, seeds, and army-airdropped rations while military teams searched from above. But the detail that gave me chills? The children said a dog appeared and stayed with them for several days before vanishing back into the jungle. The leading theory is that it was Wilson, a military search-and-rescue dog that went missing during the operation. In the game, wolves protect one of the children's dens, so the wolves represent Wilson here.
One of the kids, Leslie, later drew the dog in crayon while recovering in the hospital, too. Those crayon drawings you see on the ground in the Roblox game? Now you know where that came from.
2. Cecil Hotel - The Elisa Lam Case
Multiple Roblox games are inspired by the Cecil Hotel, and the reason always comes back to one name: Elisa Lam. She was last seen on January 31st and reported missing on February 8th, 2013. Then, on February 13th, the LAPD released elevator footage of her behaving weirdly, like pressing buttons, peering into the hallway, seemingly terrified of something unseen. The video went viral immediately.
Six days later, hotel guests started complaining about low water pressure and water that was dark and tasted strange. A maintenance worker climbed to the roof and found Elisa's body inside one of the four 1,000-gallon water tanks supplying water to guest rooms, the kitchen, and a coffee shop.
The working theory links her elevator behavior to a bipolar disorder episode, but major questions are still unanswered, like how she got inside a tank with a secured lid, and why scent-tracking dogs never detected her on the roof during the search. The Roblox games based on the Cecil Hotel capture that trapped, eerie atmosphere really well. And knowing the real story makes walking those virtual halls feel heavy.
3. Jeffrey Dahmer's Apartment
Someone actually recreated Jeffrey Dahmer's apartment 213 in Roblox called Jeffrey's Apartment (now unavailable), and it's uncomfortably detailed. Dahmer was a serial killer active between 1978 and 1991 with 17 confirmed victims. His neighbors constantly complained about a foul smell and strange sounds, including chainsaws. His explanation was always a broken freezer, but it turned out that was the smell of the dead missing people in his apartment.
The Roblox version has the bags, the skulls, the tools. All of it. The accuracy is what makes it so disturbing because everything in the game matches what investigators actually found when they finally searched that apartment. Even the Netflix series about Dahmer reportedly had a strong impact on its lead actor, Evan Peters, who spoke about how disturbing it was to portray someone who could appear so normal on the surface. It is unclear how the Roblox experience was allowed on the platform in the first place, but thankfully, it has since been removed.

If any of these caught your attention, I'd say start with 99 Nights in the Forest. The true survival story behind it makes the whole game feel like a tribute more than just a horror experience, plus it's also one of the biggest games right now on Roblox. The Deer entity in the game is even going to get a skin in the upcoming Fortnite Fortnitemares update.
