Mortars in WARDOGS give you a way to support your team from a distance. Instead of relying on your rifle to take out enemies, you can fire explosive shells toward enemy positions, clear groups, and pressure players hiding in strong defensive spots. Here is everything you need to know about how to build and use a Mortar in WARDOGS

How to Build a Mortar in WARDOGS

Before you start, make sure your character is at least Level 8, as this is when you can access the required Large Hammer. Follow these steps:

  1. Buy a Large Hammer: Visit the equipment vendor and purchase the Large Hammer.
  2. Find an FOB: Move near an active Forward Operating Base (FOB) with enough supplies.
  3. Open the Building Menu: Equip your Large Hammer and open the building menu.
  4. Select the Mortar: Find the mortar blueprint, which is usually located on the third page.
  5. Place the Blueprint: Choose a safe location within range of your FOB and spend 91 Building Supplies to place it.
  6. Build the Mortar: Interact with the blueprint and start hitting the construction points with your hammer. Aim for the yellow or white X markers to build it faster.

Once construction is complete, the mortar is ready to use. However, you also need ammunition supplied by your FOB.

How to Use Mortar in WARDOGS

Using the mortar in WARDOGS requires you to control two main aiming settings:

  1. Heading
  2. Range

The heading determines the direction of your shot, while the range controls how far the shell travels. Since there isn't a mortar range indicator on the map, check your map before firing and use enemy markers to estimate the distance.

We recommend you fire the first mortar shot in WARDOGS to get an idea of the range and the target. So the next shot will be more efficient; just make sure you fire the second shot based on the data from the first one.

WARDOGS Mortar Ammo and Supplies

Your mortar needs Ammo Supplies to keep firing. Each mortar shell costs 30 Ammo Supplies, meaning a full three-shot barrage requires 90 Ammo Supplies. Keep your FOB stocked before setting up a mortar position. If you run low, you can get more supplies from the spawn base or have teammates help resupply your position. The mortar works particularly well when enemies are grouped or holding a fixed position. You can also use it to pressure players camping around defensive structures.

Just remember that you're still vulnerable while operating it, so avoid setting up in an exposed location and keep an eye out for enemies who may try to flank you. For more guides, check out our WARDOGS wiki.
