A decade before most of the college-educated women was expected to leave their job after marriage or having kids. But things has changed now. As India is becoming more and more liberal, a new generation of women has started taking day jobs.
But considering the rise in sexual assault cases against women, it’s shameful to see our sisters/mothers/friends or wife can’t even feel safe in their Indian society. It’s not surprising to see the women getting robbed, raped, or become the victim of domestic violence even in the metro cities in India. Although we can’t change the people mentality, it’s good to know that we can take help of technology.
India is going through smartphone revolution, many working class or female student now have a smartphone. In the critical situation, it’s not a good idea to make a call as it may raise the suspicion and make the matter worse. So this is where this app comes to be perfect.
There are awesome mobile application that made especially considering women safety. Whenever the women find herself in trouble, she can quickly send her current location to closed ones, inform the local police, post a Facebook notification, etc. using these apps.
So which are these apps, let’s find out?
SOS – Stay Safe
The word SOS means the urgent appeal for help. This is powerful Android App alarm your loved once in case of emergency. The alert can be triggered by shaking the handset vigorously, which then sends an emergency message, your location and a recorded audio clip of the situation to chosen contact. This app is not limited to women safety but can also be used by elderly people having health problems.
Nirbhaya: Be Fearless
Like the above app, this app can also send SOS pre-defined message to your selected contacts by shaking your phone or pressing down the power button. But what make this app different from others is it’s feature to create heat map to mark the area safe or unsafe and share their experience with other Users using heat map showcasing unsafe areas
Woman Safety Shield Protection
This app turns an average Android smartphone into a CC camera, So that Instead of relying on the government for our safety we can make sure it on our own. How does it work? Based on the idea that Photographic evidence is better than personal narration, you can use this app in the emergency. Hit the emergency button on the app and it takes a picture of your surrounding and sends them to your chosen email contacts. This app can also be used by bystanders to record a crime in progress
TellTail
Keeping in mind the shameful, Delhi rape case, IMTS (Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd.) has come up with the TellTail. It’s a security app design for the parents/guardians to track their daughters using the GPS in a vehicle or the user’s phone. Tough this app is dedicated to tracking, similar to the above apps you can also inform the selected contacts by pressing a single button.
Citizen COP
In case you don’t have access to the internet on your phone, using the inbuilt Help SMS feature, you can send your current GEO location to your near ones and police control room when you are in trouble. The only downside to this app is that these apps it is still in development form and restricted to Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur as three major cities of MadhyaPradesh.

This app is has been there for a while. But when I saw the no. of downloads, I was shocked to see, however people has downloaded them. The reason behind that is the lack of awareness.
