It is difficult to modify builds in Fortnite, especially when in the middle of an intense fight. The devs know this which is why they built a hidden setting in Fortnite called Simple Edit. What it does is allow you to modify builds while playing Fortnite in the middle of the firefight with a single press of a button. Here is how to enable/disable Simple Edit (and Tap to Simple Edit) in Fortnite. We will also explain how you can use Simple Edit while gaming to quickly change builds on the fly.
Enable/Disable Simple Edit and Tap to Simple Edit in Fortnite
Here is how to quickly enable or disable Simple Edit and Tap to Simple Edit options in Fortnite. Yeah, there are two different settings but more on that later.
- Head to the Settings menu from Fortnite’s main menu.
- Navigate to the Game tab (the one with the cogwheel icon).
- Scroll down to the Building section.
- Look for two options: Simple Edit and Tap to Simple Edit.
- Turn ON both these options.
Note 1: Tap to Simple Edit allows editing builds in Fortnite with a single tap, making it faster than holding the button down which takes more time. Turn this option off if you want to hold and drag to control the edit timer duration.
Note 2: Simple Edit option is not available in competitive game modes.

Use Simple Edit While Gaming
Here’s how to modify your builds quickly using Simple Edit:
- Build a structure like a wall, floor, or ramp.
- Point your reticle (crosshair) at the specific part you want to edit.
- For example, aim at the center of a wall to add a window.
- Aim at the corner to create an angled wall.
- Tap the edit button:
- Press Q to enter build mode and G to edit on PC.
- Press Circle on PlayStation and B on Xbox.
- Repeat to cycle through different edit options for that section until you get the desired shape or feature.
- Hold the edit button to undo your changes and revert the structure.
Benefits of Simple Edit in Fortnite
- Faster edits: No more wasting time trying to select tiles manually while editing walls or floors for example. You can now edit simply by pointing or looking at the tile and tapping the Edit button.
- Intuitive control: Point and click for edits is quite beginner-friendly.
- Adaptable: You can cycle through different edit options by repeatedly tapping the button.
Keep in mind: Simple Edit is not that easy and needs practice to master. This is especially true for experienced players who are used to the traditional way of editing builds in Fortnite. However, it will improve your building speed and efficiency during firefights once you get the hang of it.
Bonus Tip: Experiment with Simple Edit in Creative Mode to get comfortable with different edit options for each structure.
