When Will House of the Dragon Season 3 Release?

During the 2025 Emmys, HBO CEO Casey Bloys revealed that House of the Dragon Season 3 will be released just after the 2026 Emmy eligibility window closes on May 31. That puts its release around June 2026, keeping the show on the same early-summer schedule.
Production has begun, and Emma D’Arcy marked ‘day one’ of the shoot in a behind-the-scenes clip. We will be treated to plenty of Thrones material next year as well because A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will arrive in January 2026 and then pass on the spotlight to the Targaryens.

Is House of the Dragon Season 3 the Final Chapter?

Not yet. Showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed the story will conclude with Season 4, making Season 3 the penultimate outing. That gives the series room to deliver massive set pieces and wrap up key arcs from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood.
What to Expect from House of the Dragon Season 3: Plot and Battles

Season 2 ended on a dramatic cliffhanger with Team Black and Team Green prepared for open war. Rhaenyra now has seven dragons (and potentially eight if Sheepstealer gets tamed), while Alicent Hightower’s court is fragmenting in the aftermath of Aemond’s betrayal of Aegon at Rook’s Rest.
The new season is set to open with a roaring start, as the Battle of the Gullet kicks off the premiere with intense action. Francesca Orsi, HBO’s head of drama, hinted at an “exciting battle” while Olivia Cooke (Alicent) vowed it’s “bigger and more ferocious than ever.”
Count on Daemon and Caraxes to lead the charges on King’s Landing, Aemond and Vhagar to prowl around Harrenhal, and Tyland Lannister to command a deadly fleet. Rhaenyra’s forces have to hold their advantage while dealing with the loyalties of dragonseeds such as Addam, Hugh, and Ulf.
Condal has also hinted at a “conceptual” episode that will step outside the show’s usual structure for a more character-driven story, a rare moment of calm amid the chaos.

How Does it Connect to Other Game of Thrones Shows?
While A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres just months before season 3, their stories won’t cross paths. The Hedge Knight adventures follow Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg a century after House of the Dragon and long before Game of Thrones.
The two series show Westeros’ violent history in greater detail. With dragons ready to roar and war looming over King’s Landing, House of the Dragon Season 3 looks ready to deliver a scorching start to its final act.
