How Discord Usernames Work
Until now, Discord used to add a 4-digit number to the display name to turn it into a username. But now, there is no connection between the display name and username. You can change your Discord display name or username as many times as you need. Usernames have to be unique and can only contain alphabets, numbers, underscores, and periods. Here’s how you can change both the display name and username on Discord.

1. Open the Discord app or the Discord website on your favorite browser. Now click on the Cog icon beside the username at the bottom left corner.
2. In the User Settings, open the My Account option in the left sidebar.
3. Now click on the Edit button beside the Username option.
4. In the pop-up, enter a unique username and password and click on Done to save. If the username is not available, it will show an error message.
5. To change the display name, click on the Edit button beside the Display Name option.
6. Enter your display name under the Display Name option.
7. Once done, click on the Save Changes option at the bottom of the screen.

1. Open the Discord app on your Android or iPhone. Tap on the profile pic at the bottom right corner.
2. Now select the Account option and tap on the Username option.
