Finding your friends in Minecraft can be hard. You might spend hours looking for them in your big world. The new Player Locator Bar makes this much easier. This guide will show you how to use the Locator Bar in Minecraft and everything else you need to know about it.

Minecraft Player Locator Bar (1)

What is the Player Locator Bar?

The Player Locator Bar is a new feature in Minecraft. It shows you where other players are in your world. You can see their location even if they are far away or behind blocks. The bar appears where your XP bar usually shows up. It only works when other players are in your world.

The Player Locator Bar shows small colored squares for each player. Each person gets their own color. This makes it easy to tell who is who. The squares change shape based on how far away players are:

  • Square: Player is 0-179 blocks away
  • Circle: Player is 179-230 blocks away
  • Small Square: Player is 230-281 blocks away
  • Small Circle: Player is more than 281 blocks away

How to Turn On the Player Locator Bar

In Java Edition

The Player Locator Bar is already turned on in Java Edition. If you cannot see it, follow these steps:

  1. Open your game and join a multiplayer world
  2. Press the “T” key to open chat
  3. Type this command: /gamerule locatorBar true
  4. Press Enter

This will turn on the Player Locator Bar in your world.

In Bedrock Edition

For Bedrock Edition, you need to turn it on when making a new world:

  1. Start Minecraft and create a new world
  2. Go to the multiplayer tab in world settings
  3. Scroll down on the right side
  4. Turn on the locator bar option
  5. Start your world

If you already have a world, you can still turn it on. Use the same command as Java Edition: /gamerule locatorBar true.

How to Hide From the Player Locator Bar

Sometimes you want to surprise your friends or play alone. Here are ways to become invisible on the locator bar:

  • Duck Down: Crouching will make you disappear from the radar so your friends cannot track your location.
  • Cover Your Face: Wearing a carved pumpkin or mob head hides you from detection.
  • Turn Invisible: Using an Invisibility Potion makes you completely undetectable on the locator system, though it costs valuable resources to brew.

The Player Locator Bar makes multiplayer Minecraft much more fun. You can find your friends easily and work together better. Whether you want to build, explore, or just hang out, this feature helps you stay connected.

Try using the Player Locator Bar in your next multiplayer game. You will see how much easier it is to play with friends. Remember that you can always hide if you want some alone time, too.
