CD Projekt Red just announced another amazing news for Cyberpunk 2077 players. The new 2.3 Patch brings VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support to consoles, and if you own a PS5 Pro, you are in for a treat! This update basically removes the 60 fps cap and pushes your game up to 120 fps in certain areas. Isn’t that awesome?

What is VRR and Why Should You Care?

VRR or Variable Refresh Rate connects your console to your TV or monitor in a smarter way. It stops screen tearing and lets your game run at higher frame rates. So if VRR is available, it is like removing the speed limit on your gaming experience. For Cyberpunk 2077, this means you can finally play the game the way it was meant to be played – smooth and fast.

PS5 Pro owners will get the best out of this update. Digital Foundry tested the new VRR feature and found some impressive results for Cyberpunk 2077:

  • Performance Mode Results:
    • PS5 Pro – Averages 81 fps and can hit up to 120 fps
    • PS5 – Average 63 fps
  • Ray Tracing Mode Results:
    • PS5 Pro – Consistent 40 fps with all ray tracing effects
    • PS5 – Around 35 fps

The difference is huge when you are speeding through Night City. The PS5 Pro version feels like playing a completely different game. Based on the review, your fps will change depending on where you are in the game:

Looking at the skyUp to 120 fpsAround 60 fps
Dense areas of Night CityAround 60 fpsAround 60 fps
Phantom Liberty areasAround 60 fpsAround 60 fps

The open areas give you the best performance boost, while crowded city sections still challenge both consoles.

How to Enable Cyberpunk 2077 VRR for Best Results

You’ll need a VRR-compatible TV or monitor to see these improvements. Once you have that, the feature should work automatically when you turn on Performance Mode in Cyberpunk 2077’s settings.

But unfortunately, Xbox players won’t see the same benefits. Digital Foundry found that VRR doesn’t work properly on Xbox Series X. The performance mode stays locked at 60 fps, and ray tracing mode runs at 30 fps. It seems like the VRR feature might be broken on Xbox consoles.

So, if you are buying the PS5 Pro console, this is exactly the kind of upgrade you paid for. Go visit Night City again and you can feel the difference for yourself. The game has never run this well on PlayStation.
