Apple’s small computer, the Mac mini, hasn’t seen a design refresh since 2010. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a trusted Apple analyst, reports about the new Mac mini with M4 chip in a new smaller package later this year. It will be the first major redesign of the Mac mini since the Steve Jobs era, and the overall size might be smaller but a little tall.
The new M4 Mac mini will undoubtedly will be compared with the current Apple TV 4K in terms of physical profile. Who wouldn’t like pocketable and powerful Mac mini to be that small? Apple will offer the Mac mini with two processor options: one with the M4 chip and the costlier version with the M4 Pro chip. Of course, the latter model will offer you to add more RAM and power graphics to make it a solid portable Mac. The new 2024 Mac mini will reportedly have three USB Type-C ports at the back, an HDMI port, and a power port.
Mark Gurman in his report elaborates:
“People involved in the development of the new Mac mini say it’s essentially an iPad Pro in a small box — an approach that takes advantage of the lower power requirements of the company’s in-house silicon. The current Mac mini starts at $599, and while the new model may be cheaper to make, it’s unclear if the company will pass along any savings to the consumer.“
You can find the M2 and M2 Pro-powered Mac mini models that debuted in early 2023. Earlier this year, Gurman also reported that Apple will skip adding the M3 chips in the Mac mini models. With the M4 Mac Mini on the horizon, people will have the classic question – Should you for new M4 models or buy the M2 Mac minis when their price drops? The answer entirely depends on your requirements and budget. Apple will release MacBooks with M4 chips in late October or November.
