Running out of space on Google Photos is a headache many of us know all too well. Those precious memories, captured in photos and videos, can quickly eat through your free 15GB limit. This often forces you to make tough choices about what to keep. But we found out a clever trick that uses a built-in Google Photos feature to give you significantly more storage for your growing collection – and the best part is, it won’t cost you a dime. Here’s how to get more Google Photos storage for free.

Trick to Get More Free Storage in Google Photos
The secret to unlocking (almost) unlimited Google Photos storage for free lies in a feature called “Partner Sharing.” Originally designed to easily share your photo library with a trusted friend or family member, we’re going to repurpose it in a slightly different way.
The idea is simple: you’ll create a second Google account and then use Partner Sharing to automatically share all the photos from this new account to your primary Google Photos library.

How Partner Sharing Works in Google Photos
When you set up Partner Sharing and enable the option to “Save photos shared by [Your Second Account’s Name]” in your main account, Google Photos will treat these shared photos differently in terms of storage. They don’t count against your main account’s 15GB free limit as long as the sharing remains active.
This means you can effectively use the 15GB of your second account (and any additional secondary accounts you might create) to store your growing photo and video collection, with everything still conveniently accessible in your primary Google Photos.
Things to Remember Before You Start:
- Only One Sharing Partner: You can only use Partner Sharing with one other Google account at a time. So, if you’re already sharing your photos with a friend or family member this way, you’ll have to stop that to use this trick.
- Two Accounts to Manage: You’ll have two Google accounts for your photos. Make sure the second account is set to automatically upload your new pictures. You might need to remember which account you used to take the photos.
- The Delete and Keep Secret: Here’s the best part: after a photo from your second account shows up and is saved in your main account, you can delete it from the second account, and it will still be safe in your main Google Photos. This is how you make space in the second account while keeping your memories safe in your first one. Just double-check that the “save” option is on before you delete anything from the second account.
- Not Really “Unlimited,” But More Free Space: While this gives you a lot more free space (another 15GB or more), it’s not truly unlimited. You still have the storage limit of your second Google account(s).
Let’s move on to the step-by-step guide on how to make this happen.
Steps to Get More Free Google Photos Storage
Here’s how to set up the Partner Sharing trick to get more free storage for your Google Photos:
Part 1: Setting Up Your Second Google Account (If You Don’t Have One)
Create a New Google Account: If you don’t already have a second Google account, you’ll need to create one. You can do this by going to the Google sign-up page (accounts.google.com/signup) and following the instructions.
Part 2: Setting Up Partner Sharing from Your Second Account
- On your phone or computer, open the Google Photos app or Photos web and sign in with your second Google account details.
- Go to Photos Settings by tapping your profile picture (phone) or gear icon (computer) in the top right corner.
- Tap or click on the Sharing > Partner sharing option in the settings menu.
- You’ll have options for what photos to share. For this trick to work best, choose All photos.
- Type in the email address of your main Google account.
- Tap or click Next and then Send invitation. Google will send a Partner Sharing invitation to your main Google account.

Part 3: Accept Invitation and Enable Auto-Save on Main Account
- Now, switch back to your main Google Photos account on your phone or computer.
- You should see a notification or a card for the invitation. Tap or click View invitation.
- Tap or click Confirm.
- After accepting, switch back to the second account and go to Photos Settings > Partner sharing > Save to your account.
- Choose All photos and then Done. This ensures that every photo uploaded to your second account will automatically be saved to your main account. This gives you the ability to delete photos from the second account without losing them in the main account.

Part 4: Adjust Auto-Upload Settings
- Go to Photos settings on your main Google Photos account and go to the Backup & sync option. Make sure it is turned off. You don’t want your phone directly uploading photos to this account anymore.
- Now, switch back to your second Google Photos account and go to its Backup & sync settings. Make sure it is turned on. This ensures that all new photos you take with your phone (or upload from your computer) will now be backed up to this second account.

On the Backup options, you will now get the option to select the account you want to backup your media on.
That’s it! Now, all new photos you take will be uploaded to your second Google account.
Note: Once you see your photos in your main account, you can go to your second Google Photos account and delete those photos to free up space there. They will remain safe and sound in your main account.
