Pondering to share posts and reels on your Instagram but don’t want all of your followers to see them? We’ve got you covered. The recent feature rollout on Instagram allows you to share posts and reels only with your close friends on Instagram. This is how you can do it.
Close Friends on Instagram
In 2018, Instagram announced the Close Friends feature to Instagram, where users could share Instagram stories only with their close friends if they’ve added them to the close friends list. This is a good privacy feature to have but many users have also requested a way to share posts and reels with their close friends only. The Instagram devs have finally heard us and this feature is rolling out to all Instagram users across the globe.
Before we begin, ensure you’re running the latest version of the Instagram app on your iPhone or Android. Also, add your friends to the close friends list so you can create your own inside circle.
Sharing Posts and Reels With Close Friends on Instagram
We’re using an Android phone here but the process of sharing posts or reels with close friends on Instagram is similar on the iPhone and Android, so you can follow the guide regardless of your device.
1. Open Instagram on your iPhone or Android, then tap on the Plus icon at the bottom center of the app.
2. Choose between Post or Reel as required, then select your media for the same. We’re choosing Post here as an example. Then tap on Next on the top right of the app screen.
3. Adjust the filters and their intensity as per your need, then tap on Next.
4. Look for Audience and tap on it. Then tap on Close Friends from the pop-up menu. This will ensure that you’re sharing your post or reel only with your close friends and no one else.
Note: All your close friends will be able to see each other’s usernames when they like, comment, or share your post or reel.
5. Now write a caption for your post, maybe add a location, and some music if you’d like, and tag other people. Then tap on Share on the top right after you’re done completing your post or reel.
Tip: You cannot share a close friend’s post or reel to your Facebook or any other linked account.
6. When you tap on Share, the post will be shared with all your close friends on Instagram. The green star (close friends label) next to your posts and reels confirms that they are shared only with your close friends on Instagram.
Pro Tip: You can tap on the green star icon present next to the posts and reels to quickly see your close friend’s list in case you want to make some changes to it on the go.
