Apple Vision Pro will not work when traveling on an airplane, car, or metro and shows the ‘Tracking Failed’ error. The device uses various sensors to understand the surroundings and keep the items you view stable in place. So when Vision Pro is in motion, like traveling, it can be hard for the Vision Pro to track. That’s where the travel mode comes in. When enabled, Vision Pro disables certain censors and keeps the app windows and items in place for you to work on. Here’s how to enable and use travel mode on the Apple Vision Pro

Enable and Use Travel Mode on the Apple Vision Pro

You cannot enable Travel mode when traveling as the device cannot track properly to be operated. So make sure to enable it before you start the travel.

1. To enable the travel mode, look above at the drop-down icon and tap the fingers together to select it.

Alternatively, you can disconnect the battery which should turn off the Travel Mode on the Vision Pro along with shutting down the device.

Things to Note When Using Travel Mode on Vision Pro

There are a few things you need to keep in mind when trying to use the Travel Mode on Apple Vision Pro.

Enable the Travel Mode before you start traveling. When your airplane takes off, your Vision Pro can’t track and can’t enable the feature later. You can keep the device aside while taking off and start using it when you are on the travel. The device will not stop the Travel Mode unless you disable it manually. However, do not restart the Vision Pro or disconnect the battery. Because once the device shuts down, the Travel Mode turns off.

Do not look outside the window when using the Vision Pro on the Travel Mode as it can affect the device’s ability to track surroundings. This can result in errors, closing, or freezing apps.

Some features that help you to be aware of the surroundings will be blocked on the Travel Mode. For example, Vision Pro disables the Environment automatically when you start moving so that you can be aware of your surroundings. But when you are in Travel Mode, such features are disabled. So take off your headset before moving or standing up.

If you are feeling motion sick, enable Environments on the Vision Pro to block the surroundings completely. Make sure to stick to 2D movies, not 3D ones, and avoid reading smaller text for a longer time through the headset. However, after enabling the Environment, make sure to keep your hands in check when controlling the headset as you have higher chances of hitting your neighbor in the plane.

If the app windows or items appear tilted, then long press the digital crown to re-center and straighten the app windows. Your persona is not available to use when you are on the Travel Mode. So it’s not possible to FaceTime or attend video meetings when the mode is enabled. Apple recommends not to use the Vision Pro while taking off or while landing on an airplane.

Most importantly, it is not advisable to use the Vision Pro when you are operating a moving vehicle. This mode is meant only for the passengers traveling, not the one who is controlling the vehicle.

Apart from the few features like personas and features for being aware of surroundings, most of the other features do not have any major difference. You can still operate the Vision Pro with your hand gestures, enable Environments, connect your Mac to Vision Pro, etc.
