How to Manage Collaborative Collections on Instagram

Instagram’s collaborative collections allow you to save useful posts to a folder and invite others to add to that collection. You can also name each collaborative collection. For example, I have a collaborative collection of gadgets, law, travel hacks, dance moves, etc. Do you also want to create one or more? Here’s how to create collaborative collections, invite more than one person to this collection, and more.

Create and Add to a Collaborative Collection

Think of themes while creating collaborative collections on Instagram like a trip you are planning with friends or an event you want to organize with friends/family.

1. Open Instagram and tap the bookmark icon below the post you want to save to a collaborative collection.

2. Tap on the plus icon next to the collection name to add it to an existing collection. Tap on New collection to create a new collection. By default, the post will be saved to Private collection.

3. In the pop-up, name your collection and enable Collaborative option. You can now search for friends and add them to this collection.

4. Next time, tap on the bookmark icon and then plus icon next to the collaborative collection name to share the post with your friends.

While Instagram support page says you can add up to 250 people to a collaborative collection, you can’t choose more than one person. After testing the app and fooling around for a few hours, we found a clever workaround to this problem. Read on.

Cool Trick: You can now unsend sent messages on Instagram DMs.

Add More Than One People to Collaborative Collection

As noted, Instagram doesn’t allow you to choose more than one person while creating a collaborative collection. But it does allow you to choose a chat group.

1. In the Messages section, tap on the New Message icon in the top right corner and then select Create group chat.

2. Select friends and tap on Create group chat option at the bottom. Now that group chat is ready, follow the steps to create a collaborative collection as shared above but instead of adding a friend, add the group chat instead.

You can add up to 250 people to a group chat so technically, that’s also the number of people you can have in a collaborative collection.

Find and Manage Collaborative Collections

You can add and remove people from your chat group and thereby, your collaborative collection. You can also move saved posts from one collection to another or a private collection to a collaborative collection. The steps are the same.

1. Go to your Profile tab. Tap on the three-line icon in the upper right corner and select Saved from the menu. You will find all your collections here including collaborative collections.

2. Go to a collection and tap on a post to open it. Then select the bookmark icon to save it to a different private or collaborative collection.

FAQs

1. Can you turn a private collection into a collaborative collection?

No. However, you can create a new collaborative collection and then mark all posts or saves in your private collection to that collaborative collection.

2. Can you add more people to the collaborative collection?

No. Instagram, for some reason, only allows adding one person to the collaborative collection. However, if you are using the chat group hack I shared above, you can simply add more friends to the chat group to add to the collection.
