Most games celebrate their sales figures and profits after launch, but GTA 6 is already putting up huge estimated numbers months before anyone can even play it. What's been confirmed from analyst reports and Take-Two earnings calls lately is hard to wrap your head around. However, it's also not that surprising, seeing how GTA 6 is a cultural and global phenomenon. Curious how much GTA 6 made in pre-orders till now? Well, Rockstar's numbers are impressive.
GTA 6 Pre-Order Revenue Figure as per Reports
According to market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, GTA 6 has an estimated 4.77 million pre-orders as of late August 2026, generating close to $500 million in gross revenue before launch.
The numbers were actually already big even before August 27. It increased after the Extended Look on Netflix aired.
On that single day, daily pre-orders jumped 436% compared to the previous day. Across August 27 and 28 combined, pre-orders were up 572% against the prior 30-day average. Another estimated 165,000 copies came in just over those two days, pushing the total from 4.6 million to 4.77 million.
These aren't official numbers from Rockstar or Take-Two. Sensor Tower uses its own market data and statistical modelling to build estimates, and they're pretty upfront about that. Even so, the firm acquired Video Game Insights (VGI) in 2025, which tracks PlayStation and Xbox data using over four million public player profiles. So basically, their numbers are as credible as third-party estimates get.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick backed the picture during the company's latest earnings call, calling GTA 6 pre-orders "unprecedented and astonishing." He still wouldn't put a specific number on it because he thinks pre-orders can be cancelled and don't represent final sales. Fair point, but the message seems pretty clear.

PS5 vs Xbox Estimated Revenue for GTA 6
The split between platforms isn't particularly close. Check the chart below for the latest available data on GTA 6 revenue so far on PS5 and Xbox as of September 15th, 2026:

| Platform | Share | Estimated Units | Estimated Revenue |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | 77% | ~4.23 million | ~$413 million |
| Xbox Series X|S | 23% | ~1.27 million | ~$124 million |
PS5 is doing most of the heavy lifting here, which isn't too surprising. PlayStation has led console sales for most of this generation, so it makes sense that GTA 6 is following the same trend.
Which GTA 6 Edition is Selling the Most
GTA 6 has two editions: the Standard Edition costs $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs$99.99. Usually, premium editions make up only a small part of pre-orders, and GTA 6 appears to be seeing much stronger demand for its more expensive edition than is typical.

Sensor Tower estimates that roughly 90% of all pre-orders are for the Ultimate Edition. That is unusual. We think people are planning to put hundreds of hours into GTA Online and don't see $20 as a meaningful difference. If the Ultimate Edition gives players extra vehicles, weapons, clothing, stores, and other exclusive content for another $20, it's easy to see why some buyers are choosing the more expensive version.
Zelnick said on the earnings call that Rockstar "got it right" on pricing. Hard to argue with that response rate.

Sensor Tower's Karl Kontus estimates that GTA 6 could reach around 25 million pre-orders by launch, which would mean around $2 billion in sales before the game even gets its first reviews. It's still a projection, but the numbers already being reported show just how much interest there is in the game.
For context, GTA 5 has sold over 230 million copies over more than a decade.GTA 6 is generating pre-launch numbers that most games never reach in their full commercial lifespan. November 19 can't come soon enough, and we really can't wait for it.
