There has always been some level of female representation in gaming. We have all been fans of the Lara Croft franchise. Upcoming games such as GTA 6, The Witcher 4, Tomb Raider, and Senua, more major single-player games, are putting women protagonists at the center of their stories. So, here is a list of top upcoming games with female protagonists currently worth keeping an eye on.
Upcoming Games with Female Protagonists
I know that there are already plenty of great games out there with female characters in them, but representation is about more than simply having a woman somewhere in the cast. Sometimes, you want to experience the entire adventure through a woman who drives the story, makes the big decisions, and takes down every dangerous creature, enemy, or villain standing in her way.

The upcoming lineup is looking pretty strong, and that's why I feel like this is finally a good time for players who have been hoping for more female-led games. Here is the list:
1. GTA 6
- Release Date: November 19th, 2026
- Developer: Rockstar Games
- Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

GTA 6 is one of the biggest releases on this list, with Lucia Caminos playing the role of a strong female protagonist. Lucia is going to be a great character because she already has the kind of backstory that makes you want to know more about her. She has been through a lot, learned to fight and defend herself from a young age, and even ended up in prison after trying to protect her family.
Now that she has another chance at life, it will be great to see how far she is willing to go to get the future she wants. She feels tough and capable, but there also seems to be a more personal side to her story. 2. SPINE
- Release Date: Summer 2027
- Developer: Nekki
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

SPINE follows Redline, a rebellious street artist who finds herself caught up in a dangerous fight against powerful forces in the cyberpunk city of Tensor.
What immediately makes Redline interesting to me is how much personality she already seems to have. She is not just another silent action hero running around with guns. Her connection to the city, her past, and her relationship with the Spine implant could make her story feel much more personal.
Of course, the combat is also a huge part of why this game looks so good. Redline can combine guns, close-range attacks, and fast movement in a way that looks more like an action movie than a traditional shooter. If the combat is as smooth and satisfying as it looks, Redline could become one of those characters who is just fun to play because everything she does looks cool.
3. Senua
- Release Date: TBA
- Developer: Ninja Theory
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

Senua is already one of the coolest female protagonists in modern gaming, so seeing Ninja Theory bring her back for another adventure is exciting. Her story is deeply personal, and that makes her stand out from characters who simply move from one mission to another.
The new game is expected to be a bigger action-adventure experience, with more combat, puzzles, and freedom to explore. I think that could work really well for Senua because it gives players more of her world to experience without losing the emotional side of her character.
4. God of War Laufey
- Release Date: February 16th, 2027
- Developer: Santa Monica Studio
- Platforms: PS5

Faye has always been one of those characters that feel incredibly important to the God of War story, even though players have mostly learned about her through other characters. But now, we get the chance to experience her story directly.
The game follows her after she wakes up in a dangerous afterlife, where she must face powerful enemies while trying to protect Kratos and Atreus. Faye has a lot of potential as a female protagonist because she already feels important to the series without players knowing everything about her. There are still many questions surrounding her past, and this game could finally give those answers.

5. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst
- Release Date: 2026 and 2027
- Developer: Crystal Dynamics
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC + Nintendo Switch 2 (Legacy of Atlantis)

Lara Croft is one of the first characters that come to my mind when talking about women in gaming. She has been around for decades, and what I love about Lara is that she has changed with the times while still remaining recognizable. Different games have shown different versions of her, from the confident adventurer of the original games to the younger and more vulnerable Lara in the Survivor trilogy. Lara Croft is probably the strongest female protagonist in gaming. Ever.
Now she is getting two new adventures. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis revisits one of Lara's earliest stories, while Tomb Raider: Catalyst gives her an entirely new adventure. I love the idea of getting both. One lets players revisit an important part of Lara's history, while the other shows that the character still has plenty of new places to go.
6. ReBlade: The Death Spiral
- Release Date: TBA
- Developer: ChillyRoom
- Platforms: PC via Steam

ReBlade: The Death Spiral is a cyberpunk action roguelike where dying is part of the journey. You play as a female Synthetic trapped in a deadly cycle. Instead of simply ending your progress, death sends you back and gives you another chance to learn, improve your build, and discover more about what is happening.
Players can experiment with different weapons, chips, and upgrades, so there should be plenty of ways to find a fighting style that works for you.
7. Resident Evil Veronica
- Release Date: 2027
- Developer: Capcom
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC

Claire Redfield has always been many people's favorite female character in gaming, so seeing Resident Evil Veronica bring one of her biggest stories back makes fans very happy.
What I have always loved about Claire is that she feels capable without feeling invincible. She is constantly thrown into terrifying situations, but she keeps moving forward. Resident Evil Veronica gives Claire another chance to take center stage in a major story, and a modern remake could introduce her adventure to players who never experienced the original.
Capcom has also done an amazing job with several modern Resident Evil games, so I have high hopes for what this remake could become.
8. Fable
- Release Date: February 23rd, 2027
- Developer: Playground Games
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

Fable is a little different from the other games on this list because you are not playing as one fixed female protagonist. Instead, you can create your own Hero and decide what kind of person she becomes. Sometimes, creating your own female character and shaping her journey can feel just as personal as playing through a story about a pre-written protagonist.
The new Fable allows you to explore, fight, make choices, build relationships, and shape how the world sees you. For players who want more control over their character, this could be one of the best upcoming options.
9. The Witcher 4
- Release Date: 2028
- Developer: CD Projekt Red
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

Ciri taking over as the protagonist of The Witcher 4 feels like the right move. She already has a deep connection to the world and its characters, but she also has her own story, abilities, and personality. That means the new game does not need to simply repeat what Geralt's adventures did before.
She can carry the legacy of the previous games while still taking the series somewhere new. She has already been through so much, and seeing her become the main character of an entirely new saga gives CD Projekt Red plenty of room to show who she becomes next. Ciri is not Geralt, and I hope the game fully embraces that instead of trying to turn her into a copy of him.
10. Judas
- Release Date: 2027 - 2029
- Developer: Ghost Story Games
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

Judas puts you aboard a dangerous spaceship where survival may depend heavily on the people around you. You play as the mysterious Judas, and your relationships with other characters can affect how your journey plays out. With this, I am hoping for the kind of game where you look back at your choices and wonder if trusting someone was actually a mistake.
11. Dark Mass
- Release Date: Fall 2026
- Developer: Path Games
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

Dark Mass is a horror game that takes place underwater, and for me, that already sounds terrifying. You play as a woman exploring a mysterious sunken manor filled with supernatural threats, puzzles, and secrets.
What makes the setting so scary to me is the feeling of being trapped. In a normal horror game, you can run away from something. Underwater, everything feels more limited. You are surrounded by darkness, deep water, and things you may not be able to see coming. That alone could make Dark Mass feel very different from the usual haunted-house horror game.
