Forza Horizon 6 throws you straight into Japan with a lot going on. There are races to run, roads to explore, and a whole country worth of landmarks to discover. But if you don't understand how the progression system actually works, you'll end up missing out on a ton of free cars and rewards. This guide breaks down all three progression paths in Forza Horizon 6 so you know exactly where to put your time.

Forza Horizon 6 Progression Path Guide

Most players jump into races and assume that's the whole game is about. The truth is, it's not. Forza Horizon 6 actually has two separate systems running at the same time, with an additional path for multiplayer.

Your Collection Journal in the game tracks all of them. Get into the habit of checking it regularly so you always know where you stand and what you're close to unlocking.

1. Horizon Festival: Wristbands Events

The Wristband system is the main story path. You earn Horizon Festival Points by completing official Horizon events. Those points bring you up through a series of colored Wristbands. Here is what each tier requires:

WristbandWristband IconTotal Points Required
Yellow – Rookie0
Green – Enthusiast2,500
Blue – Intermediate6,000
Pink – Advanced10,000
Orange – Expert15,000
Purple – Elite20,000
Gold – Horizon Legend32,500

Once you hit the point threshold for the next tier, a Wristband Event unlocks. You have to complete it to actually earn the new Wristband. These events include Showcase Events and Horizon Rush obstacle challenges, and they're a lot of fun.

Each Wristband you earn opens up new races with higher car class restrictions. The final one, the Gold Wristband, is the big one. It gives you Horizon Legend status and gets you into Legend Island, where the game's longest Goliath race lives. That's the endgame for the Festival path.

How to Earn Festival Points

The fastest way to earn Festival Points is by completing and winning races. You get 250 points just for finishing, and another 100 points on top of that if you are the winner of the race.

After that, PR Stunts like Speed Traps, Speed Zones, Drift Zones, and Danger Signs are your best bet. Each star you earn from a PR Stunt gives you points, so going for three stars is always worth doing.

Smashing XP Boards and taking photos of cars you haven't taken before also rounds out your options if you are still grinding.

On top that, you have to remember: Difficulty doesn't change your point earnings. You'll still get the full point reward even after you change the difficulty.

Wristband Event Rewards

Each Wristband Event also hands you a free car as a reward. The Yellow Qualifier event actually gives you four cars to get you started, which is a solid boost right at the beginning.

2. Discover Japan: Stamps

Discover Japan runs parallel to the Festival and tracks everything you do while exploring Japan itself. Smashing Regional Mascots collectibles, photographing landmarks, completing Street and Touge Races, finishing Day Trips with the character Mei, delivering food in Tokyo, and collecting cars all feed into your Stamp progress.

Discover Japan

There are seven Stamps to collect, following the same color progression as Wristbands. Here's what each tier unlocks:

Purple – AdventurerForza Horizon 6 Progression Path16,000Soko 78
Gold – Master ExplorerForza Horizon 6 Progression Path20,000Vision House

How to Earn Stamps

The most efficient way to earn Stamps early is by going for three stars in Yellow Story Events, since the game loans you a car for those, so you don't need to build anything special to clear them. Winning Street and Touge Races is the next best option, though those require a car good enough to beat the competition.

The Stamps themselves unlock Barn Find Rumors, which lead you to all of the hidden cars scattered across Japan. Once you hit your first Stamp, Mei will introduce you to her family's abandoned Estate, which you can customize and decorate directly in the open world. You will also have your first garage here.

The latter Stamps unlock purchasable Player Houses in different parts of Japan, with the Vision House being the big finale reward.

If you're just exploring and naturally playing the game, you'll pick up the first few Stamps without even trying. The latter ones require you to be a bit more deliberate, so use the Journal to check which activities you're still missing.

3. Horizon Play: The Multiplayer Progression Path

The third system is all about online play. Horizon Play covers a suite of competitive and cooperative game modes, including:

  • The Eliminator - Open-world battle royale mode.
  • Hide and Seek - A game of chases where the hider must stay hidden from their opponents.
  • Touge Showdown - Two-player head-to-head championships with three races.
  • Spec Racing - Everyone drives identical stock cars, and pure driving skills are all that matter.

Horizon Play has its own separate XP and leveling system. You earn a new Badge every 10 levels, up to a cap of Level 100. You also unlock additional Badges by completing each game mode a set number of times and by earning Skills during those sessions.

The best part for campaign players is that Horizon Play progress actually feeds back into your Wristband progression. Every level you gain in Horizon Play, up to Level 25, grants you Festival Points toward your next Wristband. So if you enjoy multiplayer, you're also making headway on the Festival side without even touching a race.

Horizon Play also has its own Series Standing Leaderboards for each mode, which reset when a new Festival Playlist Series begins. If you're competitive, this is where you prove it.

Which Forza Horizon 6 Progression Path Should You Focus On?

If you are a big fan of Forza Horizon 6, then you should always do both of the progression paths at the same time. Most of what you do naturally in the game, like races, exploration, and stunts, contributes to multiple paths at once.

However, if you are brand new and not sure where to start, Discover Japan is the better first stop. It's more relaxed, the early Story Events also give you free cars to use, and the rewards, as Barn Finds, set you up for better Festival races down the line. It's going to make it easier when you get some decent cars through Discover Japan before going deep into the Wristband grind.

Once you've got a solid garage going, start prioritizing races to push up your Wristband tier. Win every race you can, hit the PR Stunts for bonus points, and always keep an eye on the Journal, so you don't miss anything.
